Experts have been saying for years that Colorado, namely Denver, is slated to be the next Silicon Valley. The actual movement from the Bay Area to Colorado’s Rocky Mountains kicked off with the formation of Pivot to Colorado, a $500,000 investment from supported local entities aimed at enticing talent to the state. With more than 11,000 tech companies located all throughout Colorado, Vail is witnessing a ripple effect as top entrepreneurs spill over and out west from Denver. The reason why, however, is actually deeper than a love for ski slopes and stunning views.
An Investment in True Change
As the world continues to become more plagued by large-scale issues that don’t have one simple solution, entrepreneurs in Vail are looking for ways to solve these problems by teaming up with other startups and individuals in different industries. With entrepreneurs like Erik Gordon revolutionizing the way in which startups can influence change by engaging in cross-sector social change initiatives, many in Vail are beginning to take note of these changes and are working to do the same.
Gordon’s model for cross-sector initiatives is particularly attractive and relevant to Colorado entrepreneurs, which is a state that is consistently ranked in the top 10 most innovative states in the county. Ranked high for the amount of projected STEM job demand, peer-reviewed articles published and for the innovation environment and entrepreneurial activity, Colorado is ripe with opportunities for entrepreneurs who want to invest in true change, and Vail is the perfect backdrop for it all due to a bustling local economy.
Current Changemakers in Vail
To further demonstrate the rich entrepreneurial spirit in Vail, the Vail Valley Business Women met on January 9th to start the new year off right by supporting their fellow female businesswomen and changemakers. The organization is dedicated to helping female entrepreneurs in Vail advance, network and access the resources they need to thrive. The group, which is made up of entrepreneurs from various different industries, is the perfect example of cross-sector efforts designed to join minds from different fields in order to influence change while also supporting each other. The major tech news outlet Hackernoon is actually also based in Vail and made the move in order to take advantage of the working culture and top talent. The team behind Hackernoon noted, of the move, that they wanted to spend more time in the valley immersing themselves with the local entrepreneurial spirit while also helping to cultivate it.
The Future of Tech in Vail
As Colorado continues to gain momentum as a top competitor in the digital world, more companies will continue to invest in the outstanding talent that call the state home. With Denver slated to become the next Silicon Valley and large tech companies like Hackernoon already making Vail home, the surge of entrepreneurship and innovative ideas that are oozing west into Vail’s snow-capped landscapes can only be expected to continue for a long time to come.
