Edwards’ Mikaela Shiffrin picked up another 26 World Cup points in a discipline she does not dominate, finishing 10th in the super-G at Lake Louise, Canada on Sunday.
Although she won the same race last season, Shiffrin is a slalom and giant slalom specialist who has just three super-G wins among her 62 total World Cup wins.
Increasingly, however, Shiffrin, 24, is picking up points in speed events, finishing second with 80 points in the Lake Louise downhill on Saturday after winning the race here two seasons ago for her lone downhill victory on the tour.
Shiffrin also finished 10th for 26 points in the downhill at Lake Louise on Friday. In all, she gained 132 points over the weekend in disciplines she’s not expected to win.
Seeking what would be an American record fourth straight overall World Cup title, Shiffrin now leads with 472 points to 235 for second place Viktoria Rebensburg of Germany, who won Sunday’s super-G and therefore gained the winner’s share of 100 points.
