Vail and Beaver Creek are under sunny skies this week, teasing loaded spring skiing calendar (Vail Resorts photo).

After two months of fairly consistent snowfall dating back to just after Thanksgiving — and now an above-average snow pack after a slow start in November — the Vail Valley is coming up for air this week, basking under sunny, bluebird skies for an early taste of spring skiing at Vail and Beaver Creek.

Then on Saturday, Feb. 4, forecasters say snow will return with 3 to 6 inches, followed by a possible northwest flow of snow that may dip just far enough south to get the Vail Valley back into the powder cycle starting Monday, Feb. 6. Here’s the forecast from meteorologist Joel Gratz of Opensnow.com:

“Enjoy the sun and warmer temperatures this week. The next storm should deliver 3-6 inches on Saturday, February 4th, and then we’ll head into a prolonged period of northwest flow from about February 6-9th. If the storm track sags just a bit south, the northern mountains of Colorado should do well. If the storm track stays a bit north, Colorado may just miss out on significant snow. It’ll be a game of a few miles one way or the other!”

And here are some spring deals and events from Vail Resorts that you may want to get in on now:
