January looks like it will be a stormy month for the Vail Valley, with several smaller snowstorms stacked up for the second half of this week and continuing into next week.
After a dusting on Monday, another 4-8 inches of fresh snow could fall starting Wednesday night and lasting into Friday – just in time for the inaugural Oakley Week snow event in Vail Jan. 9-12.
“Tuesday and Wednesday will be dry with high temperatures in the 20s. The next storm will bring snow from Wednesday night through Friday afternoon, and Friday could offer the best powder with totals of 4-8 inches,” Opensnow.com meteorologist Joel Gratz wrote Tuesday.
“The storm after that will bring snow from Saturday afternoon through Sunday, and Sunday might offer some powder,” Gratz added. “Another storm will likely bring snow from Tuesday through Thursday and either Wednesday or Thursday could be the best day. I am excited for many days with snow but lack confidence in big totals for any single day.”
Vail and Beaver Creek are in great shape headed into the new year, both having received more than 10 feet of snow so far this season. But we can always use more, and even if the totals aren’t forecast to be huge, several days and weeks of consistent snowfall always keeps things fresh.
